Tonight our team members are driving to Canberra, but I've already been here for 3 days - Staff Conference and the Student Ministry Expo. We've heard heaps of encouraging things from Lindsay Brown, head of the IFES (AFES is under their umbrella, and FOCUS is part of AFES).
Lindsay has such a huge catalogue of student stories from the around the world, it would blow your mind. The biggest encouragement was for staff to persevere in faithfully sharing the gospel and encouraging students to grow in Christ - after 30 or so years in student work he has heard back from so many students of the impact IFES ministry has had on their lives.
Other encouraging things:
- spending a good part of this afternoon with Peter Blowes from CMS - looking into simple Bible study methods that will be really useful for SPRTE this week and FOCUS in '09. No wonder Rosi B is so cool!
- having dinner with old friends who I knew in Townsville when I first graduated in '98. They are here as AFES area committee members and they're checking out SPRTE as guests of the staff workers in Townsville - so cool to hear about their families and lives having grown up around the kingdom!
- free internet at the Pancake Parlour in Canberra CBD!!
I'll be so encouraged to see our team tomorrow! Give thanks for them and for all the wonderful ways God uses to encourage his people! Pray that we'll likewise be an encouragement for the Japanese Christians we visit in less than a week.
